Maybe it doesn’t. I tried drifting out of the parking ramp after the film, but my efforts were met with mixed results. For safety’s sake, I probably should refrain from a second attempt at it. Then again, if injury prevents me from ever having to sit through The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift again, it may not be such a bad thing.

I can’t honestly say I watched the movie so much as I was run over by it. So testosterone-driven and frantic its style, I only vaguely recall taking anything away from the experience, except for possibly the idea that women love to have their future romances decided by the results of street races. Come to think of it, the film suggests that the internal mechanics of a car are more complicated than that of a woman. Consider, for instance, the character of Neela (Nathalie Kelley). Taken in by another family in Tokyo after her mother died, she gets involved with DK (which stands for Drift King, see if you can guess what role he fills in the film), a relative of her caretaker. He treats her poorly, but she stays with him anyway. By the end of the film, when our hero beats him in a race (oops! Was that a spoiler?), she ends up with the good guy instead. Why? Certainly not out of love, since never once did I detect any hint of actual romantic chemistry between them. It’s as if her decisions aren’t based on actual feelings, but simply on the degree of racing skills one possesses. The scary thing is, between all the hooting and hollering, no one else in the theater appeared to have a problem with this.

But who is our plucky young hero, the character we have to spend the next 90 minutes with? Why, it’s none other than good ole Southern rebel Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), who talks as if he’s forever chewing on a gerbil, or some other small mammal. He’s a street racer and car enthusiast (obviously) whose antics have landed him in hot water with the law. His mother, employing a plan of questionable legality to keep him out of juvenile hall, decides to send him to live with his father in Tokyo, where he will learn some discipline and get a proper education.

A “proper education” may be overselling it a bit. Maybe I missed something here, but they send him to a school where all the teachers speak Japanese. The film makes no attempt to convey that Sean understands Japanese. So, I have to ask: what is he honestly learning here, or is there some fundamental I don’t understand about how humans gather information? Clearly, his father either used to be in the navy or is currently in the navy (you can tell because he constantly walks around in a Navy t-shirt). Couldn’t he recommend a school more appropriate for Sean, such as the one on the Navy base? This is but one example of how plot takes a backseat to the races. Everything else is either half-assed or underdeveloped.

For example, the film offers repeated attempts at philosophical insight, but it comes off more like random quotes one might find in the corner of a day planner. Wait, I’m looking at one now: “You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing” -- Michael Pritchard. If I just take one of these from each month, I could build my own philosophically-fused Fast and the Furious movie. If only I knew how to race.

Which reminds me, I haven’t really mentioned the racing yet. Let me put it this way: have you ever seen To Live and Die in L.A.? Well, it’s not that. I can summarize every racing scene with the following sequence: exterior shot of car; cut to shot of hand shifting gears or shot of foot pressing on pedal (not always in that order); another brief exterior of cars racing; zoom in on villain’s face as he sneers; cut to hero’s face as he laughs (or scowls, depending on his current position in the race); exterior of both cars, now computer-generated, doing something crazy. Sometimes the order differs slightly from scene to scene, but the shot structure rarely diverges much from this system.

The director is Justin Lin, whose name sounded familiar, but I couldn’t quite place. A quick Internet search tells me that he directed Better Luck Tomorrow, a film with a lot of promise, that nevertheless didn’t live up to my expectations. This may explain why every once in a while Tokyo Drift provides a scene that demonstrates some semblance of directorial skill. Not that it matters, since, when you clutter such scenes with scantily clad women, no one really pays much attention to the direction.

There’s an old Japanese saying that may or may not exist externally from this film: “The nail that sticks out, gets hammered,” meaning the outsider among us gets singled out for abuse. Well, watching Tokyo Drift, I discovered I was that nail and I did get hammered. But it wasn’t all for naught. Alas, I did drag from it one indispensable life lesson that I shall heed for the remainder of my life: Never drift with another man’s woman.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is playing in theatres across the country.

Download link

Uploading...

Full Metal Yakuza (1997)

Not all that entertaining, and very low budget, but flashes of Miike's wacky brilliance make this worth seeing for fans of his work. A wanna-be yakuza loser bumbles his way through the lower echelon unpleasantness of a gang, before a very unpleasant incident results in his being transformed into a deadly (if goofy-looking) cyborg fighting machine. Will he get revenge or will he just mope around like some whiner from a French movie and short-circuit in the rain?

People familiar with Ichi will see a lot of the same elements (though Ichi does come from different source material). The protagonist of FMG is a proto-Ichi in many ways, full of angst and completely dysfunctional, stalking around in a plated body-suit and not much of a hero. Any serious pathos or plot development is undercut by the wacky joke bits Miike throws in (like our hero learning stances to deflect bullets). The silliness is definitely fun, but the movie is so schizophrenic that most of the enjoyment is of the "Whoa! Did that just happen?" variety. Dig in if you're a Miike fan, otherwise don't start here.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SFU9TNGL
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G74ERP2U
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KDXIVHZH

Prenium link
http://www22.megaupload.com/files/c122bb596f95ef252cf274693d2f2849/fmy.part1.rar
http://www43.megaupload.com/files/2fb7091481005d680975d957af4c24d5/fmy.part2.rar
http://www22.megaupload.com/files/bdb52764130273189fdb093776cb2c6a/fmy.part3.rar

avi, 207mb, English sub, no password

The Master of Disguise (2002)

NO one but a convict guilty of some truly heinous crime should have to sit through "The Master of Disguise," an unbearably tedious and unfunny comedy starring Dana Carvey and directed by Perry Andelin Blake.

That soupy dreck like this received a big-screen release - when so many decent-to-excellent independent and foreign films never reache theaters at all - is simply sickening.

Carvey's Pistachio Disguisey (har har) is the slow-witted son of Frabbrizio Disguisey, the last in a long line of "masters of disguise."

Frabbrizio now runs a restaurant in America, where Pistachio works as a waiter. One day, Devlin Bowman, a criminal mastermind who collects rare treasures, kidnaps Pistachio's parents.

Pistachio has no idea what to do until his grandfather (Harold Gould) turns up to reveal the young man's inheritance and to instruct him in the art of disguise.

With the help of Grandpa, Pistachio hires an assistant and sets out to rescue his parents.

What follows could hardly be more flaccidly unimaginative.

In one of several sad attempts to entertain the parents of the kids the movie is aimed at, there is a visual and musical reference to "The Exorcist," and Carvey's Pistachio strains to imitate Al Pacino in "Scarface," complete with a bright red shirt and over-the-top Cuban accent.

In this guise - and in all the others - Carvey tends to be grating and crude; he flubs even a George W. Bush imitation.

It's as if the muse that inspired him on "Saturday Night Live" and "Wayne's World" has simply deserted him, though the inept screenplay he wrote with Harris Goldberg would throw any performer off his game.

As if mirthlessness, stupidity and contempt for the audience weren't crimes enough, the makers of "The Master of Disguise" throw in jokes about farts and fat-bottomed girls and even one about a wiener that's grossly inappropriate for a PG movie.

Producers rarely merit a mention in a review, but Sid Ganis, Alex Siskin, Barry Bernardi, Todd Garner, Adam Sandler and the folk at Revolution Studios all bear responsibility for foisting "The Master of Disguise" on an undeserving public.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q7EAMYBX
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=16FC3M8W
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D8AMT7U4

Prenium link
http://www43.megaupload.com/files/1861688db6d63cf17e96cc372f57bfaa/The.Master.of.Disguise.part1.rar
http://www48.megaupload.com/files/d2ee08da7c595ca68635e159b0b4b577/The.Master.of.Disguise.part2.rar
http://www48.megaupload.com/files/8a71d50424c68178941ee913fa22b094/The.Master.of.Disguise.part3.rar

avi, 234mb, English sub, no password

Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

There are two strong sex scenes and intense violence in Lucky Number Slevin. That should keep most Christians from viewing this film.

Josh Hartnett plays Slevin, a victim of mistaken identity. Slevin goes to visit his friend Nick Fisher. When Slevin arrives, Nick is nowhere to be found. While at Nick’s apartment, Slevin is visited and taken hostage by two opposing crime fighting families who mistake him for Nick. Having recently been mugged and with no proof of identity, he finds himself between a rock and a hard place. The adorable Lucy Liu plays Nick’s neighbor, Lindsey.

Lucky Number Sleven is many things: a comedy, a mystery and a suspense thriller. Writer Jason Smilovic has a gift for witty dialogue and director Paul McGuigan is a great storyteller. The pace of the film is quick and stylish—taking the audience into another world. The film is edgy and very funny.

The premise behind the film is that of revenge. Each family is trying to kill off the other. Somehow, even I was pleased with the end. That shows that either this film was engrossing or that I am easily persuaded to worldly thought. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. That is hard for us to swallow. We have this idea that we have the right, if not the responsibility to punish those that bring harm and pain to our lives. Somehow we think that we find peace when fully avenged. The truth is that we don’t. Adam brought sin into the world. And that one act has led to many sinful acts that have brought death, pain and misery to all mankind.

A true Christian can find his peace in Jesus Christ and his hope in the Second Coming. At that time, true justice will lead and our desire will not to be avenged, but rather to see Christ given the glory and worship He deserves.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W76PY9EE
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2DWLZNV5
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2CFTQCA7
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SIDIMG9X

avi, 162mb, English sub, no password

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

Russell Crowe has probably made the smartest choices of any actor in Hollywood in the last five years. After bursting on the scene as the tough detective in L.A. Confidential, he was unrecognisable in The Insider, achieved world domination in Gladiator, and again went against type in A Beautiful Mind. Crowe clearly picks his parts with great care and his new film may be his biggest gamble yet.

Broadly based on the tenth Patrick O' Brian sea-faring novel, Crowe plays Lucky Jack Aubrey, Captain of the HMS Surprise which in 1805 at the height of the Napoleonic wars was sent to intercept and destroy the French boat Acheron. It's another powerful performance from Crowe, who dominates the screen portraying a Captain who is hugely respected by his crew, has the necessary acumen to outwit most of his enemies, and yet is self-deprecating and constantly aware of his own weaknesses.

While it is the impressive action sequences that will grab the publicity for this film - the level of realism in the sea battles is arguably better than ever put on screen - director Peter Weir has plenty of time for character development. In fact, the main criticism of the film is that there may be too much time devoted to this, which may ultimately hurt the film's commercial appeal. Be warned: the action and adventure scenes in this film are intermittent, and there are long periods when it's a simple tale of sea life.

Many will find this very appealing: although O'Brian was not a hugely well-known writer, those in the know adored his work, and it's clear to see why. He paints a complete picture of life on the waves, and Weir (whose eclectic career has included Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Truman Show) faithfully devotes plenty of time to the intricate relationships and the various hierarchies amongst the crew.

Chief among these is Aubrey's relationship with the ship's Doctor Maturin (Paul Bettany). These men told bad jokes together, played music together and while they may have had differences of opinion on the Captain's tactics, they had a mutual respect bordering on a sense of love for one another. This is brilliantly evoked by the two actors, and their scenes together are one of the highlights. Bettany and Crowe are of course pals from their time together on A Beautiful Mind.

With most of the action confined to the boat - apart from a memorable sequence filmed on the Galapagos Islands - audiences will experience what is was like to be confined to a ship for long periods of time. Some sharper pacing might have helped, and perhaps one or two more action sequences to divert attention from some of the long periods when not much happens.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RCWEC5VQ
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IZAJAACN
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DD82UHF0
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JZOYNP9A
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FP275WK8
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1D9MIGGU

avi, 249mb, English sub, no password

Desperation (2006)

Stephen King's favorite filmmaker, Mick Garris, is at it again with another great screen adaptation of the horror master's prose. The 1996 novel is several hundred pages long, and packed with horror, suspense, drama and mystery. At three hours, the ABC TV movie manages to capture much of the spirit of the book (the teleplay is penned by King himself).
Garris and King first collaborated in 1992 on the big screen release, Sleepwalkers. Since then, they've done several movies and miniseries, including The Stand and Riding the Bullet. They're a tried and true package, probably because Garris is one of the few directors who has been able to bring King's very internal stories to the fore and make them external in a visually pleasing way.
Desperation hits the highway running when we meet a young married couple (played by Henry Thomas and Annabeth Gish) driving across country. Smack in the middle of the hot, desolate desert, they're pulled over by a small town sheriff (Ron Perlman) who has big things in store for them. Big, very bad, things.
The first thing you'll notice is the caliber of acting, which is superb by all three players. Thomas and Gish are wholly believable as the unsuspecting travelers who get caught in the town of Desperation's deadly web — but what's more is that Perlman, as the completely crazed Collie Entragian, is also totally credible. This is what makes the character so truly scary: Perlman somehow manages to give a hate-spewing, undead, rotting, murderous sheriff some gravitas.
As the story progresses, we're introduced to the rest of Desperation's citizens. Some of them are new, and completely unwilling, transplants. These include the Jack Kerouac-styled author, John Edward Marinville (Tom Skerritt) and his assistant, Steve Ames (Steven Weber); a saucy hitchhiker named Cynthia (Kelly Overton); and the Carver family. The parents, Ralph and Ellie (Matt Frewer, Sylva Kelegian), can barely contain their grief over the sheriff's brutal shooting of their little girl (Sammi Hanratty), but they have to hold it together for their 11-year-old son, David (Shane Haboucha). Or so they think; as it turns out, young David is stronger than any of them would have guessed.
While Entragian, seemingly possessed by an evil spirit, wreaks havoc and wantonly commits murder after murder, his desperate prisoners hatch a plan to escape the jail, and hopefully, Desperation. But it's not that easy to get away from the isolated mining town.
Filled with dark imagery that includes bedeviled dogs, undulating insects, cawing crows, ghost girls and predatory pumas, Desperation's mysteries unfold and ratchet up the suspense beautifully as the talented ensemble anchors the story, keeping it rooted in reality. Desperation is painstakingly lensed by Christian Sebaldt — the steep angles, deep shadows and glints of fear in the eyes are all captured brilliantly, bringing to mind the term "desert noir". The music score is grittily flawless.
Some might find the holier-than-thou character of David slightly grating, but fortunately for those of us who like our heroes a little edgier, we've got Marinville as our foil. The reason behind the sudden unleashing of the long-buried evil is a little too pat, as is the way our ragtag band of detainees finds out about it. It seems too convenient, and easily found. But you can only do so much within a few hours, and considering all the balls in Desperation's fetid air, it's forgivable.
Fans of the book will know how it all ends up, but you don't have to be a King devotee to enjoy this dark little supernatural thriller — it's an equal-opportunity frightener. Dirty misery pushes the inhabitants, corroded by loneliness, to the most terrible extremes. This is the background of the new film by Carlos Reygadas, who caused a sensation with Japon. Surrounded by a perfume of scandal, this Battle in Heaven fails, not in the cinematographic sense (it is very well made), but in its discourse, a sort of mystic-religious salmagundis, which takes away its power.

The promising opening, all violence retained, forecasted a dry and nervous film. But showing fellatio, in the opening and closing of the film, does not make it an "oeuvre". However majestically filmed, this daring sequence reveals an infinite softness. The camera goes from the face to the sex and from the sex to the face, circumvents the copulation, this taught sex offered to the mouth being synonymous of an intransitive desire. Lovesick, Marcos, a driver, secretly desires Ana, the liberated daughter of the General for whom he works. The young woman prostitutes herself for her own pleasure in a high end brothel where Marcos regularly drives her. When he shares with Ana that he kidnapped a child with his possessive wife, a bond of secrecy consecrated by the flesh unites them. Reygadas imagines the isolation of his hero with virtuosity. The sequence in the subway, where the surrounding noises gradually blur and the frame tightens on Marcos, masterfully translates his distress. Reygadas multiplies the angles to 180 degrees, absorbing the surrounding urban environment, where his seedy characters struggle.

Unfortunately, Reygadas can't maintain this for the duration of the film. Halfway through, one has the impression that his film is finished. Precisely at the moment when Marcos approaches the sky during a walk in the mountains with his family. Drowned in the clouds, the hero disappears. In the last part, with a religious procession in the background, we see his redemption. Heavily symbolic, this segment sinks the ensemble. Almost grotesque, he obliterates all of the deaf violence from the beginning of the film, everything corroborated by a fantasy ending where Ana loves Marcos. Should we count Carlos Reygadas among the heralds of the Mexican cinema, when other young directors like Amat Escalante and his remarkable film Sangre have already gotten the better of him?

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KIM91SDJ
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WKEBIR2U
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7DX8968S
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=00Z7D6YK

avi, 150mb, English sub, no password

In the Line of Fire (1993)

An enjoyably slick if not unfamiliar thriller (by Jeff Maguire) in which the fiendishly brilliant psycho-killer repeatedly taunts the cop to man-to-man confrontation. As Secret Service agent Horrigan, Eastwood is as outspokenly independent as ever: at odds with superiors, caught in a teasing, argumentative romance with colleague Lilly Raines (Russo), and determined to do his job. This time, however, he's haunted by the past (30 years ago he failed to stop the bullet that killed Kennedy) and when he learns that a would-be assassin (Malkovich) has plans for the current Presidential elections, professional duty provides the opportunity for personal redemption or personal failure. Directing each set-piece for all he's worth, Petersen highlights the plot with vivid details and invests several of the action sequences with moral/psychological dimensions. He's helped no end by Malkovich, and by his lead, whose fine, easy performance extends even to tears.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3CJN3P3N
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WOMO8AQY
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RURPFVSY
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XFKJD2HM

avi, 190mb, English sub, no password

Dorm Daze 2 (2006)

This time, the turf hits the surf as the students of Billingsley U. ditch campus life for fun, sun and high times on the high seas. Beginning with his debut Kicking and Screaming and continuing throughout the uneven Mr. Jealousy and last year's superb The Squid and the Whale, Baumbach has used his work to tackle the highly personal doubts, fears, and disappointments with which he's currently struggling. Certainly, the director's first feature-length effort, shot when he was only 25, feels torn from recently concluded experiences, charting the aimlessness and ennui of four insufferable, maturation-adverse college grads with a relaxed realism and sharp ear for the sarcasm and pop culture-infused dialogue that came to define many mid-1990s breakout indies (Clerks, Reality Bites, Whit Stillman's Metropolitan and Barcelona).

As in his later, equally literate output, Baumbach's preoccupation is with the frustrations of those whose higher education affords them no greater insight into themselves or the larger world, a situation that his characters respond to in generally ill-advised ways, their discussions' intermingling of the erudite (Kant, Keats) and the insignificant (Josie and the Pussycats, Friday the 13th) reflecting their central conflict between living up to the lofty expectations of their (upper-middle) class position and shunning such obligations in favor of wallowing in minor day-to-day and societal minutiae. Whereas Kevin Smith's convenience store slackers talk about such TV and movie trivia because it's the primary thing—nay, the only thing—they truly care about, Baumbach's protagonists are too smart not to realize the avoidance games they're playing, their self-analytical awareness making them more pitiful and, supposedly, more charmingly pathetic. Kicking and Screaming's twentysomethings sidestep confrontation whenever possible: the guys cowardly lying on the floor to avoid a door-to-door cookie salesman; Max's (Chris Eigman) advice that his teenage girlfriend should not piss off a redneck gentleman whose bumper sticker indicates that he'd rather be bow hunting; Otis's (Carlos Jacott) decision to drink a beer with unidentifiable food floating on its surface rather than complain to the waitress.

Their fundamental aim, however, is to evade the future, an undertaking that goes hand in hand with a desire to canonize the immediate, as articulated by Max's confession that "I'm nostalgic for conversations I had yesterday." The second of these two objectives also drives Kicking and Screaming itself, though Baumbach's interests extend past simply immortalizing the laidback vibe of hanging around with friends who should be doing something more productive, moving on to the more fertile ground of depicting the anxiety and anger of failed love, a topic plumbed via Grover's (Josh Hamilton) anguished attempts to deal with the end of his relationship to Prague-bound ex Jane (Olivia d'Abo). The consciousness of their decision to postpone growing up eventually makes Grover and company infuriatingly obnoxious, their blasé-intellectual appeal nullified by either woe-is-me mopeyness (Grover, Otis) or cooler-than-thou arrogance (Max), the latter of which is compounded by the fact that Eigman—the decade's poster boy for haughty surliness—remains one of the most singularly self-satisfied screen presences in the medium's history.

Yet Baumbach's gift for crafting characters out of flesh and blood (such as Eric Stoltz's perpetual student Chet) gives the film an associative realism, an I-know-these-people familiarity, which helps partially offset their irksomeness. And though his dialogue is often too pleased with its own cleverness, his script's marriage of the literate and the lowbrow never comes across as excessively contrived and, such as with a background chat regarding a theoretical fight between Freddy and Jason, seems prophetic about mainstream movie culture's Tarantino-accelerated devolution into solipsism. More remarkable about Kicking and Screaming, however, is Baumbach's directorial minimalism, his long, graceful takes and sly employment of rock and country music bestowing the comedic and romantic proceedings with subtle sophistication, as in an emotionally well-calibrated scene between Grover and his maritally separating father (Elliot Gould), as well as a final, hopeful image whose heartfelt poignancy is—after the preceding onslaught of smart-alecky gibber-jabber—all the more powerful for being so unexpected.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U29A8NRT
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FNWKY74Z
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4OTNEH9X

avi, 114mb, English sub, no password

Frequency (2000)

Like Field of Dreams, Frequency is a movie expertly designed to make men cry.

And like Field of Dreams, the plot relies heavily on the relationship between a father and a son, and their eventual reconciliation. Starring Dennis Quaid as the father and Jim Caviezel as the son, Frequency casts them as a fireman and a police officer, respectively. Quaid died in a fire 30 years ago, and Caviezel grew up without a male influence in his life. Cut to the present and Caviezel is drinking heavily and is just coming out of yet another failed relationship. One night, though, he's looking through his father's old things and finds an old ham radio. He cranks it up and wouldn't you know it, it's a magical ham radio! He soon finds himself talking directly to his father, in the late 60s. Together they rediscover their relationship, while at the same time solving a decades old serial killer case.

Frequency relies on a suspension of disbelief unbelievably great, but the characters are so compelling and the story is so interesting that it quickly becomes a non-issue. This is a movie that could have failed miserably and caused laughter among audiences, but it didn't. It didn't because director Gregory Hoblit (Primal Fear) never allows the science fiction angle of the movie to take over. It's always kept in the background, with the father/son storyline always in the foreground. The sci-fi stuff is just there to propel the story forward, but it never dominates the movie.

Quaid, an under-appreciated actor, is at the top of his game here. With the exception of his distracting Boston accent, his performance is flawless. This is a character that's completely selfless (he did die trying to save a homeless person, after all), and Quaid becomes this man. The only way a movie like this can really get to an audience is for them to be fully convinced of the characters and their relationships. With rising star Caviezel equally good as the son, it's their relationship that makes the movie.

Besides being compelling story-wise, this is a movie that's interesting just to look at. Hoblit creates a genuine sense of dread in the darkness. Because much of the movie deals with a serial killer, ominous shadows are ever present. And because the time-travel theme figures heavily in the story, the film always has sort of a murkiness to it that really seems appropriate.

But, with all those other elements stripped away, what still remains is an incredibly moving father/son story. Frequency ranks with Field of Dreams as a movie that will likely evoke a tear or two from men.

Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AP5DXMYB
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P2945HPI
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=80LG776O
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9IVW7VZW
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P69777D3

avi, 201mb, English sub, no password

Stay (2005)

"Stay," which owes more than a little to David Lynch and "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," wants to be a clever, twisty-turny mind-screwer of a mystery, but comes up severely wanting. Similar also to 2005's devastatingly brilliant "November," "Stay" features many of the same plot devices and freakish ideas, but unlike that overlooked indie gem, there doesn't seem to be much of a point to director Marc Forster's (2001's "Monster's Ball") needlessly complicated stylistic tricks. All of the time spent trying to sort out the clues is ultimately for nothing, the culminating revelations adding up to a flimsy smoke and mirrors trick that can be guessed a mile away.

As the film begins, 20-year-old Henry Letham (Ryan Gosling) sits disoriented in front of a fiery car wreckage. Switch forward a few months, he enters the office of part-time college psychiatrist Sam (Ewan McGregor) and announces that he is going to end his life on Saturday at midnight. Desperately wanting to help out this troubled young man, Sam seeks the guidance of his artist girlfriend Lila (Naomi Watts), a formerly suicidal woman herself who knows all too well what Henry must be going through. As Sam's journey to help Henry before it is too late intensifies, reality begins to blur with what could be dreams, hallucinations, or something else entirely.

As a fan of puzzle-box cinema (2001's "Mulholland Drive" is the ultimate example done right), "Stay" simply doesn't cut it. Frustrating more than compelling and abstract in threadbare ways, director Marc Forster and screenwriter David Benioff (2002's "25th Hour") push and pull their audience randomly and in so many different directions that you quickly feel like pushing it back at them. Save for some exquisitely shot scene transitions (with characters and settings seamlessly morphing into different people and places) that are frequently ingenious, the film is an empty shell. There are some dramatically effective scenes along the way, most of them dealing with Lila as she confronts many of her past demons as a way of helping Sam, but when all the cards are dealt at the end, the time spent getting to know the characters is rendered irrelevant.

Performances are thanklessly fine, with Naomi Watts (2005's "The Ring Two") standing out as the most humane and complex as Lila. Watts' role eventually becomes secondary, but before then she is extraordinary in exhibiting emotions, many of them internal, in relevant and authentically poignant ways. As Sam and Henry, Ewan McGregor's (2005's "The Island") and Ryan Gosling's (2004's "The Notebook") abilities are fumbled; while they are at the story's core, their characters never become more than vaguely defined chess pawns. Turning up in brief but critical parts, Janeane Garofalo (2002's "Big Trouble") is the troubled Dr. Beth Levy, slowly destroying herself with pills and booze; Bob Hoskins (2005's "Unleashed") is the blind Dr. Leon Patterson, who Henry claims is his thought-to-be-dead father; and Elizabeth Reaser (2001's "Thirteen Conversations About One Thing") is Athena, an acquaintance—and maybe more—from Henry's past.

Spending 98 minutes with "Stay" requires a lot of concentration for a disappointingly trite payoff. Wondering "Is that all there is?" when the end credits roll is a definite and warranted possibility for a corkscrew thriller that ends up emphasizing the "screw" part in regard to viewers who have paid ten bucks to see it. If "Stay" holds some underlying message or deep meaning, director Marc Forster lost sight of it in his attempts at building an atmospheric look and offbeat style. Had it not already been taken by a 1999 film from Doug Liman, a more appropriate title for the flimsy "Stay" would have been "Go."
Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MUO3ATXW
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G6DC6KKC
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RMYMCAJ2
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U4EG99PE

190mb, English sub, no password

The Wizard (1989)

I must admit that this movie holds a great deal of nostalgia for me. Like many youngsters in the late 80's/early 90's I was a Nintendo addict. So when a movie made by Nintendo was released in 1989 you’d better believe I was there on opening day! After recently watching this film again I question the common sense of my 10-year-old self deeply.

There's a pretty basic plot at work here serving only to maneuver the characters from one piece of new Nintendo themed equipment to the next. The "wizard" in question is young Jimmy Woods (Luke Edwards) who has an uncanny Nintendo playing ability. His powers are useless to him however in his failed attempts to socialize with any real human being. Jimmy and his brothers Corey (a particularly annoying Fred Savage) and Nick (Christian Slater) are going through some tough times after their parents recent divorce and the angst they feel culminates in Jimmy and Corey skipping town in order to exploit "the wizards" awesome talents at a video game convention.

The journey the brothers make across the country isn't particularly inspiring or heart warming but they do manage to gain the services of a tough-talking tomboy named Haley (Jenny Lewis). These misfits are somehow able to cross the Great Basin unaided on their way to the Promised Land of California. To say they're enterprising would be a gross understatement. Mostly they manage to make their money by hustling Jimmy's awesome video game prowess on unsuspecting hicks and rubes. This comes back to haunt them in the form of three hooligans who steal their meager possessions and the rise of another "wizard" (Jackey Vinson) who's skill over Jimmy is enhanced by the awesome force of the Nintendo Power Glove!!!

In a needless subplot we find a cross-country chase occurring between a hired private investigator and the boy's father and brother. I guess they were in a competition to see who could track down the boys first. There are animosities on both sides that result in the two rival factions destroying each other’s cars any chance they get.

After a travel montage enhanced by Real Life's "Send Me an Angel" and a brief layover in Reno, Nevada the heroes make it to the video game challenge at Universal Studios. "The wizard" is able to best the mediocre first round of competition before finding himself in an epic conflict with the rival "wizard" and an ultra-nerdish girl. It was at this point that Nintendo went for the knockout blow by unveiling the (at the time) brand new Super Mario Brothers 3! Jimmy's awesome skills are able to reunite his troubled clan and soon enough he's found his peace of mind inside a disturbing dinosaur monument. Strange stuff indeed!

I vaguely recall being let down by this movie upon its initial release and time hasn't done anything to change those feelings. Within a few years Nintendo was no longer that cool to me and most of the "awesome" gear they had touted in "the Wizard" had proven to be nothing more than expensive junk. Not all hope was lost however as “the Wizard” did manage to leave a legacy in its revelation of a super cool secret within Mario Brothers 3. A distressing legacy to be sure...
Download link

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NA4VCFXO
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3I6NMC7V
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C80809WD
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7OJMINQI
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=49PEP9UE
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9DNPRS9F
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S9D82YFA

United 93 (2006)

"United 93" is an odd film by any standard. Filmmaker Paul Greengrass (notable for his terrific 2002 docudrama "Bloody Sunday" about the 1972 British Army massacre of 27 civilians in Northern Ireland) wrote and directed what is a disturbingly prosaic piece of dramatic conjecture about one of the most puzzling events of 9/11. As a fictionalized docudrama, "United 93" punctures all suspension-of-disbelief because of the intrinsic absurdness that the mightiest military power on earth couldn’t scramble a dozen squads of F-16 fighter planes to perform aerial escorts for the "11 commercial airliners" believed to be hijacked on 9/11. Greengrass disguises art as journalism by matter-of-factly declaring that United 93 crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania at the "heroic" hands of its passengers in spite of the fact that the now famous "crash site" produced not one human corpse or even a single drop of blood.

A somber prologue introduces four young Muslim men praying inside their hotel room in the wee hours on the morning of September 11, 2001. The scene divulges a subtly racist undercurrent that plays out during the film with the thinly concealed hubris that America’s Neocons have benefited from under the guise of false patriotism since 9/11.

In the film’s production notes, Greengrass gives his mission statement: "There are lots of ways to find meaning in the events of 9/11. Television can convey events as they happen. A reporter can write history’s rough first draft. Historians can widen the time frame and give us context…Filmmakers have a part to play, too, and I believe that sometimes, if you look clearly and unflinchingly at a single event, you can find in its shape something much larger than the event itself—the DNA of our times."

"Sometimes" is the key word that absolves Greengrass of his self-imposed responsibility for mapping out any DNA of falsification or rampant government and corporate corruption that permeates every dust particle left behind in the wake of 9/11.
U935

In practice, the filmmaker leverages the contrasting estimable talents of Ken Loach’s devote director of photography Barry Akroyd ("Raining Stones") with three editors—Clare Douglas ("Bloody Sunday"), Christopher Rouse ("The Bourne Supremacy"), and Richard Pearson ("Men In Black II"). His "clear and unflinching" gaze at the "single event" diverts in telling ways from recorded facts. Greengrass gets a performance windfall from Ben Sliney the actual FAA Operations Manager on duty at Herndon, Virginia on 9/11, playing himself with the hard-bitten charisma that comes from years of experience. However, Greengrass still can’t help nudging out dramatic truth when he has Sliney give the order for a "national ground stop" for all air traffic in the country, when, in fact, it was FAA head Jane Garvey who gave that order.

The cell phone/air phone calls are an area of tacit fiction that the auteur fudges with discreet but significant treatment. The actual recorded calls from the "passengers" of United 93 are suspiciously vague and calculated. The calls were never more than a couple of sentences long and share a symmetrical brand of abstract logic that rings false in the context of a hijacked aircraft.

Transcripts of the "calls" reads like answers from a sixth grader cheating on a test he doesn’t know the questions to.

"It’s bad news. I need you to be happy."

"Ted, what can I do? What can I tell the pilot?"

"We’ve been hijacked. He had an Islamic book."

"It’s getting very bad on the plane… the plane is making jerky movements."

These examples taken, from the 9/11 Commission’s Report as referenced in writer/director Dylan Avery’s persuasive documentary "9/11 Loose Change," are telling for their clipped structure and ridiculously short length. They don't convey any of the mile-a-minute patter that a panicked person would use to call for immediate help in a hijack situation.

Greengrass fudges the notable call in which a "passenger" introduces himself to his own mother using his first and last name. The director’s "clear" gaze doesn’t extend to quoting the "actual" air phone dialogue, perhaps because he couldn’t compensate for its inherent falseness. He does however include the caller asking his mother if she believes him when he tells her the plane has been hijacked.
U934_1

Ultimately, "United 93" is a regurgitation of suspicious media-fueled speculation about events on an airplane that we know very little about. This is a movie that does more to discourage raising questions about what really happened to flight 93 than it does to encourage debate over the bastion of lies that have been fed to the American people.

It is an interesting footnote that United flight 93 was not scheduled to fly on 9/11, and that the plane (tail number N5IUA) was spotted by United Airline’s employee David Friedman on April 10, 2003 at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, and that the plane is listed as still valid with the FAA. Dylan Avery provided essential information used in this article in his documentary "9/11 Loose Change."

Rated R, 111 mins. But somewhere along the line they started applying the term to any children's movie. "Saving Shiloh" is a family picture. Adults beware.

For the uninitiated, and I would count myself among them before watching this film, "Saving Shiloh" is the third movie based on a best-selling trilogy of books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. The first two films were "Shiloh" (1996) and "Shiloh 2: Shiloh Season" (1999). "Saving Shiloh" was released to a limited run in the spring of 2006, so it is essentially making its première on DVD. If you are new to the series, I would suggest your starting with the original "Shiloh," so far, the best in

If you are new to the series, I would suggest your starting with the original Shiloh, so far, the best in show.

show.

"Saving Shiloh" provides everything you would expect from a family picture: A cute little dog; a cute fourteen-year-old kid; the cute kid's two cute little sisters; two loving parents, maybe cute; and a boatload of family values and moral lessons, not so cute but bearable. As an adult, I found it all slow, tedious, and predictable. Who knows how a preteen might find it.

The story takes place in rural West Virginia in the present day. Although some ten years went by between the release of the first and third movies, the film tells us that the actual elapsed time is only supposed to be one year. So "Saving Shiloh" takes place a year after young Marty Preston (Jason Dolley, the third actor to play the part) acquires the beagle Shiloh. The dog, you see, ran away from his previous owner, a cranky old man named Judd Travers (Scott Wilson, reprising his role), who mistreated him. The dog is now so scared of the old man, he won't even cross the bridge leading to Travers's house.

This third installment belongs mainly to old Judd, which is why Wilson gets top billing. The movie primarily focuses on an exploration of the old fellow's background and personality, almost to the exclusion of the boy and his dog, after whom the series is named. Fortunately, it's all for the good, because Wilson is the highlight of the picture. Wilson is a fine character actor who has been around a long time; you may remember him as the aggrieved husband, George Wilson, in the 1972 production of "The Great Gatsby." Compared to the bland, colorless characters who surround him, Wilson's sad old man is the only spark of life in sight. He is quite convincing as the guy everybody in the community thinks is the meanest man alive, a thief and a skunk, possibly even a murderer. Young Marty is one of the few people in town who has faith in him, and he determines to find the best in the crotchety old geezer.

The film's major conflict develops early on when Marty and his friend David (Jordan Garrett) find an abandoned car in the woods. They soon discover that the owner of the car has gone missing, and that old Judd had had a fight with him the evening of his disappearance. David believes Travers killed the man and hid his body, and before long Marty and David are playing amateur detectives looking for the corpse. While the townspeople, too, seem to think that Travers had something to do with the incident, Marty doesn't buy it. Unaccountably, he believes in the old guy's innocence and tries hard to befriend him. Marty's female friend Sam (Taylor Momsen) says Marty's got a good heart. Maybe that's why he's always looking for the best in people. Or maybe the filmmakers just wanted to emphasize an inspirational character trait for the benefit of young viewers. Either way, it's a noble ambition and affords a good role model for kids.

Unfortunately, that's about the extent of the story. Marty continues his crusade as an eternal optimist while the evidence continues to stack up against old Judd. Meanwhile, we get a lot of long, tiresome dinner conversation and front-porch chitchat from Marty's parents (Ann Dowd and Gerald McRaney) and assorted belligerent remarks from his two younger sisters (Kyle Chavarria and Liberty Smith).

The movie plods along through an assortment of other minor conflicts that seem tacked on to extend its length to ninety minutes before it picks up a little energy in the last half hour. Man, is it slow coming, though. Even then, the characters' concluding difficulties appear forced and arbitrary. And poor Shiloh, as I've said, is almost incidental to most of what happens. Finally, expect an "ahhhhhh..." ending, which will please the little ones but may have adults longing for something better.

Also, considering the natural beauty of the location shooting (I understand it was Missouri), it seems odd that the filmmakers didn't exploit it further. Much of the film is shot indoors, and the outdoor footage looks entirely straightforward and pragmatic. The result is a movie that reminds one of a Hallmark, Lifetime, or Disney Channel production.

By the way, if you watch the movie with your children, you might want to talk with them afterwards about the implications of the title. "Saving Shiloh" refers to several things in the story, both literal and figurative, and the discussion might prove fruitful.

Video:
Warner Bros. provide two screen presentations on flip sides of the disc, one a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and the other a 1.33:1 pan-and-scan. The P&S offers up a tiny bit more image at the top and bottom of each frame, and, of course, cuts out a good third of the image left and right. I watched in widescreen, which WB transferred to disc at a lower-than-normal bit rate for them. Consequently, while the colors are bright enough, the picture is a tad rough, with a touch of grain and noise around the edges. Faces are a tad dark, too, and definition is a little blurred. Still, these drawbacks are slight.

Audio:
If I had not had to write about the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, I probably would not have noticed it. I suppose that's a good thing; it's so unobtrusive, it must have been quietly doing its job. About the most I can say about the audio is that it's well balanced, it smoothly and easily conveys dialogue, and it supplies a small degree of musical ambience reinforcement to the rear channels. Oh, yes, and there was a moment when the bass came to life. A brief moment.

Extras:
WB include four primary bonus items on the disc, none of them particularly interesting. The first is a music video, "Open Your Heart," performed by Dayna Lane. The second is a three-minute "Interview with Shiloh," which isn't so much an interview as it is the dog talking to us about his training for the film; very cutesy. The third item is a seventeen-minute series of "Interviews with the Cast and Filmmakers" in which the moviemakers talk about how great the film is and how wonderful their fellow moviemakers are. Things conclude with twenty-three scene selections, but no chapter insert; trailers for everything but the "Shiloh" films; English and Spanish spoken languages; and English, French, and Spanish subtitles.

Parting Shots:
It's hard for me to judge any children's film because I can only see it from an adult's perspective. Maybe kids have more patience than I do. For me, the movie was about as slow and heavy as Southern molasses, and the ethical concerns were laid on just as thickly. Although the movie has slice-of-life sincerity written all over it and the lessons it teaches are wholesome in the extreme, the poor thing tries to be so down-homey and goes in so many different directions, it's hard for an adult to take it seriously. Forget about saving Shiloh; somebody should have thought about saving the motion picture.
Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=5ba4303

Aeon Flux (2005)

Who's in It: Charlize Theron, Martin Csokas, Jonny Lee Miller, Sophie Okonedo, Frances McDormand

The Basics: Aeon Flux is on a mission to assassinate the leader of her corrupt utopian society, but the more she uncovers, the more confused she — and the audience — becomes. She fights a lot of people along the way.

What's the Deal? You have to wonder why Paramount decided not to show this movie to critics. It's no worse than a lot of other silly sci-fi movies. That doesn't mean it's good. It's mostly a lot of Charlize Theron deadpan-murmuring her theories about what's really going on underneath the surface of her ultramodern world and then pulling gadgets out of her stacked high heels to help her fight off the bad guys. But it's got a consistent tone of spaced-out seriousness. That's something, at least.

What Sucks About It: If you aren't familiar with the animated version that came first, you'll have to just sort of guess what's going on most of the time. They should have maybe thought about that before making sure all the sets looked rad.

What's Cool About It: The sets. They're the kind of sleek, modern, outer-spacey Danger Diabolik surroundings that make you think, "What's she got to complain about? Look at how everyone gets to live!" Even the dead people get to be carried away on glowing stretchers.

Costume Clause in Charlize's Contract: Someone made the executive decision to costume our heroine in full-body unitards and hoods. Of course, if she wore what the 'toon Aeon wore, it would be rated NC-17. Having said that, there's one scene in which you learn that she sleeps in something that resembles a chain-mail bikini. That's gotta hurt.

Nepotism Is One of the Perks of Winning an Oscar: Charlize's main squeeze, Stuart Townsend, has a cameo as a dude who French-kisses a secret message to her. Twenty-foot-tall tongues get all entangled right before your eyes. They're very wet-looking.

Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=3062af6

Catch (2006)

The scenario is familiar to local scam artists: a fraudster calls the victim pretending to be an abducted relative and asks for help. Taiwan has witnessed a steep rise in fraud in recent years as creative con artists try to stay one step ahead of the law.

After breaking local box office records with her debut movie Formula 17 (十七歲的天空) in 2004, the 25-year-old director Chen Yin-jung (陳映蓉), aka DJ Chen, has taken inspiration from local confidence tricksters and made the highly anticipated action/comedy flick Catch (國士無雙), which stars a troupe of pretty-faced idols including Tony Yang (楊佑寧), Tsuyoshi Abe (李振冬), Tien Hsin (天心) and King Chin (金勤).

Like Formula 17, Catch is a genre-driven movie that aims to give the audience two hours of pure entertainment and a few laughs. But unlike its predecessor, the movie follows a complicated plot that centers on a film extra named Gene (Tony Yang).

The film begins as rumors spread of a top fraudster's return to crime, which prompts the police to launch an investigation.

Gene is accidentally recruited by the police to work as an undercover agent probing a crime ring led by con artist Austin (played by the talented King Chin). The plot thickens when Austin disguises Gene as a rich entrepreneur in the hope of luring the mysterious top fraudster into working with the ring.

To add to the confusion, Gene's dream girl, anchorwoman JC Chang, enters the story and embarks on a bit of investigative journalism to uncover his past. Chased by the police, criminals and the girl, the happy-go-lucky film extra gradually puts together all the missing pieces of the puzzle for the grand finale.

There are plenty of jokes, action, suspense and romance in the film. The Japanese manga-type humor successfully elicits laughs from members of the audience, whereas the few action scenes appear awkwardly out of sync with the film's fast paced narration.

The art design itself is worth a mention. Using bright, saturated color and fashionable interior design and furniture, the film ingeniously creates the con artists' imaginative playground.

Director Chen told the Taipei Times that she wanted to make a movie which local audiences could identify with.

"There hasn't been any local production which tells the story about what's happening in Taiwan today. So in Catch, we included a lot of elements related to daily life, such as the glare of the paparazzi and political corruption. The film is highly localized. We don't know how the international market will respond to it, but we'll worry about that later," Chen said.

When asked if she is worried how the movie will do after the huge success of Formula 17, DJ Chen struck a rather ambiguous note, saying "I have dreamed of watching the movie several nights in a row now ? I don't feel under pressure. The movie's budget is around NT$17 million, three times larger than that of Formula 17. All we wish for is to recoup the production costs." Judging from the refreshing performances given by all the leading actors, and the fast-paced storyline, Catch should be able to live up to Chen's expectation.

Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=bdfbe96

Krrish (2006)

Krrish is a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya and story continues. Rohit and Nisha are married and they have a kid. They both die in a car accident. The kid starts growing up in his grand mother care. As he is growing up he discovers that he has superpowers (in Koi Mil Gaya Jadoo transferred his powers into Rohit, which apparently went to his son). The movie basically shows how he deals with his power and save the world from a villain (Naseeruddin Shah).

Krrish Mehra (Hrithik Roshan) is a man with extraordinary strength, speed and intelligence. He loves the calmness and beauty of natural mountainous and surroundings where he is living. He comes across Priya (Priyanka Chopra), a beautiful girl from Singapore, who has come there for camping and trekking and falls in love with her. Krrish is left heart broken when she finally has to leave for Singapore. When Sonia, Krrish grandmother (Rekha) sees how lonely he has become, she encourages him to go to Singapore and woo Priya back.

Krrish reach Singapore; find it a completely new and fascinating world. He learns fast and adapts to it quickly. He makes new Chinese friends in Singapore and woos Priya. In one of the songs, the atmosphere is that of a carnival where most of the people are wearing masks of different kinds. The song continues into a circus, there a short circuit happens and the tent of the circus catches fire. The circus performers get stranded on top and start screaming for help. Krrish realizes that he can help them. He sees a slightly broken burnt Mask lying on the ground nearby. He dons the mask for hiding his identity and save them in a spectacular manner. This heroic deed makes the ‘Masked Man‘ a hero and a nationwide search is launched for this new hero in Singapore.

Shooting of much-awaited movie is complete however the special effects are yet to be incorporated. According to reports, Krrish is all set to release in June 2006, during the summer vacation.

Some facts/Trivia related to Krrish

Hrithik will be seen in six stunning looks - an old man, the young guy from Koi Mil Gaya, a village look, a Singapore based fashionable guy look, Superhero look plus there is a child actor who plays a young Hrithik.

Amrita Rao was the first choice for the role of Priya, but Rakesh Roshan saw Priyanka’s performance in a special screening of Aitraaz (2004) and was so impressed that he decided to cast her instead. Aishwarya Rai was also considered for the role.

Working title of Krrish was “Koi … Tumsa Nahin“.

The Krrish character in the movie is very strong and can leap 30 feet in the air. Hrithik Roshan received special training in Hong Kong for the special leap he makes in this film.

Hrithik Roshan did extensive martial arts training for this movie - his trainer was Tony Ching Siu Tung (from Hong Kong). Despite only 25 days of training in China, his instructor thought that he could pull off stunts which usually take years of training.

In the famous circus scene, Hrithik Roshan suffered a hamstring tear in his right leg. Doctors prescribed bed rest for two weeks but he continued shooting after two days using pain killers.

Hrithik Roshan broke his right thumb and a toe during the strenuous training for the ambitious wire work used in the film. He also singed his hair while running through a fire in another action scene.

Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=9a1e5eb
http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=d1a1e31

Stay Alive (2006)

A low rent "Elm Street" that replaces the idea of dreams with video games, "Stay Alive" is a very generic example of the all too profitable and yet disgustingly bland PG-13 supernatural slasher genre that has risen to far too much prominence and profitability in recent years. Like all movies of the type, this follows the general Agatha Christie-inspired mold of a group of teenagers being killed off gruesomely one-by-one until the inevitable face-off with the baddie.

In this film the villain at least has more thought put into her than any of the hero characters. Based on an old Hungarian legend (shifted to Louisiana for filming purposes), the Countess Elizabeth Bathory was essentially a 16th-century serial child killer who used their blood to stay young and was eventually entombed alive in her own home. In the film though she's reduced to the occasional flash and resembles more like the albino scary kids from "The Grudge" all grown up and dressed in old-fashioned Southern robes.

As for the teens, its the usual fodder lead by two hotties and a bunch of standard 'kicks on the side - the goth chick, the stoner, the yuppie, and the future Surreal Life candidate (in this case Frankie Muniz). There's the usual 'the cops don't believe me' subplot (kept graciously minimal) and the one or two lines of "you don't believe this supernatural nonsense do you" from a character as almost a disclaimer for the general audience. Its all so predictable, right down to who'll survive in the end that there is no suspense.

That leaves two things going for it - the deaths and the video game concept. The former has been utterly neutered by the PG-13 rating, which leaves only one or two gruesome ghostly faces in mirrors as the film's most objectionable piece of material. The video game scenes actually are a lot more engaging than the film itself, but like all games - they're much more fun playing than actually observing.

Is there anything going for it? For an obviously low-budget film, the production design is not too shabby and the Louisiana setting gives it a little bit of flavour. But the only distinct aspect to this story is its vidgame concept which it essentially wastes - along with our time. Peetty much as atrocious as the recent "When a Stranger Calls" remake (if not more so), this is one film where its probably better to wait for the game.

AVI File Details
========================================
Name.........: Stay.Alive.2006.avi
Filesize.....: 181 MB (or 185,516 KB or 189,968,656 bytes)
Runtime......: 01:25:57 (123,646 fr)
Video Codec..: XviD
Video Bitrate: 231 kb/s
Audio Codec..: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate: 64 kb/s (32/ch, stereo) CBR
Frame Size...: 320x240 (1.33:1) [=4:3]

Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=0f0c6ec

Time and Tide (2000)

Over the past five years, Tsui Hark has fallen from renowned HK Cinema master to lap dog of Jean-Claude Van Damme. His move to Hollywood was understandable, and probably would have been much more palatable had the resulting films been in any way inspired. Alas, that simply wasn't the case. Both Double Team and Knock Off had flashes of Tsui's creativity and gonzo imagination, but both were also mired in the limitations of the colorless US action genre. And both films had an incredibly terrible leading man.
Thankfully, those days seem to be over. Tsui's first trick upon his return to Hong Kong is this decidedly bizarre mixture of gangster action, existential angst, and various pieces of his celebrated filmography. Like most of Tsui Hark's best films, Time and Tide possesses an admirable energy and verve. The pacing can be breathless and exhilirating, and the action entertainingly over the top. However, like most of Tsui Hark's worst films, the plot can also require leaps of logic that would tax even the most loose cinematic reader out there.
Gen-X Cop Nicholas Tse stars as Tyler, a punk kid who works for Anthony Wong's shady bodyguard firm. Tyler was originally a bartender, but a one-night stand with a lesbian cop (model Cathy Tsui) leaves her preganant and him feeling responsible. Despite her desire to stay away from him, Tyler throws himself into his new job to make the requisite cash to provide for her. And then...stuff happens.
What that stuff is can be difficult to describe. Tyler's problems are existential youth issues that permeate your typical Goo Wat Jai flick, but Tsui Hark kicks it up a notch by adding intermittent existential voiceover which take us into Tyler's mind. His issues may seem identifiable, but Tyler spends just as much time contemplating postcards of paradise, or debating God's intentions in creating this world. All that existential mumbo-jumbo could imply a greater universality to Tyler's struggle. He, like all man, is merely trying to get by while simultaneously discovering his place and ultimate destiny—and the forces which will drive him there. That could be the universal message that Tsui Hark wants to impart. Or, it could just be randomly scripted existential mumbo-jumbo that purports to mean something when it actually means absolutely nothing at all. You be the judge.
Then things get really weird. Tyler befriends kick-ass hitman Jack (Wu Bai), who also has a pregnant wife (Candy Lo). The two find themselves at odds in the beginning, but their paths become inexorably entwined when both must fight evil South American bad guys who speak in really terrible dubbed English. Jack used to work with them, but now he wants out and must battle his former comrades over his newfound freedom. Tyler gets involved because he needs to recover the money that Jack stole from the evil South American bad guys. If he does so, he'll be able to save face, do the right thing (i.e. return the money to the rightful owners), and maybe even earn the respect of the mother of his child.
Both men have similar things at stake (pregnant wives), and both must dig within themselves to find the strength to move forward and affect the desired change in their lives. That's what the conflicts in Time and Tide are about: the necessary will to survive in the urban jungle represented by Hong Kong. Tsui Hark is trying to show us the human spirit at work in these dangerously chaotic times. Or, he could just be looking for an excuse to create a forty-five minute action ending which blends acrobatic heroic bloodshed with finely orchestrated chaos. Again, you be the judge.
With all of the above at work, it's expected that the viewer be totally lost and possibly alienated by the second hour. What it all means is probably beyond the comprehension of most moviegoers, and even those who make it their business to understand film might be thrown off. As much as Tsui tells us what's going on, he doesn't really connect all the pieces to a greater whole. Time and Tide exists on a strange plane of filmmaking, where the bits and pieces seem to be reaching for something which is never truly defined. Is it all about humanity? Or is it just cathartic kick-ass action and loosely connected interludes? Who the hell knows?
But at least the kick-ass action and loosely connected interludes seem to work - and work well. The action is one thing: a combination of Matrix-like camera tricks and entertaining gunplay that's cartoony, yet visceral and entertaining. The loosely connected interludes are another: despite their questionable connection to the overall film, the pieces can sometimes be emotional and even telling. Tsui Hark manages to find recognizable pieces of humanity in his genre mishmash, and it's practically enough to redeem the entire film.
Credit should be given to the casting, which works remarkably well. Nicholas Tse's popstar status belies his considerable screen presence and acting ability. Despite his punkish attitude, he projects believable emotion and surprising vulnerability. Relative newcomer Candy Lo turns in a remarkably affecting performance, and Taiwan rocker Wu Bai is effective as the film's most pivotal character. His casting is probably the best move Tsui Hark made, as he eschewed the usual HK personalities for someone who brings few preconceptions to the role. Wu is not a pretty boy, and thus he seems very fitting for the frankly outlandish role of Jack.
Time and Tide works best at its most offhand moments, such as when Tyler, Jack and his wife engage in an impromptu singalong in Tyler's car. Scenes like those recall the more strangely beguiling moments of Tsui Hark's work. And, it's those scenes which seem to make his otherwise patchwork mixtures of genre, character and meaning into something which transcends mere classifications of good or bad. Time and Tide is ultimately a lot more opaque than most of Tsui Hark's eariler works, but if you let the film take you along for its ride, you might be able to extract something worthwhile—and even strangely compelling—from it.

Download link

http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=c3c286b
http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=f005269

Dating a Vampire (2006)

A month or so ago, this site reviewed Don't Open Your Eyes, a Wong Jing-related horror comedy that was roundly criticized, then begrudgingly called "partially amusing." Given the general state of Hong Kong Cinema, some kindness in judgment is understandable, though that rationale sometimes seems like a catch-all excuse. Have we really gone that soft? Are we so desperate for semi-decent cinema that we would excuse a barely average piece of moviemaking like Don't Open Your Eyes? Well...once you watch the recent Dating a Vampire, the answer to the above question is an unequivocal "Yes!" Don't Open Your Eyes is definitely quality-challenged, but next to Dating a Vampire, it should play Cannes and take home an award. Dating a Vampire is really that bad. And to insure that someone updates the karma checklist, it must be noted that Wong Jing had something to do with both movies.
Eric (Alex Fong Lik-Sun) and Cheun (Sammy) are two medical students who opt to rent a flat in a secluded housing estate, the reason being to concentrate on their upcoming exams. Their best intentions go south damn quick; first of all, Cheun wastes time and acts extremely annoying, thereby ruining any chance at serious study time. Second, there may be vampires in the building. Eric becomes slightly enamored of Jade (Miki Lee), a pretty young thing who lives in the building with her older sisters (Zuki Lee and Cynthia Ho). But after a series of weird noises and the appearance of a man bleeding from the neck, Eric thinks something may be up. He enlists the help of TV occult expert Mister M (Yuen Wah), who all but confirms Eric's suspicions: the sisters are vampires. Worse, they must suck the life out of one good man to cure their aversion to daylight, and have ear-marked Eric as the designated "good man". But Jade is one of those insanely nice vampires, and doesn't want Eric to die. But Eric won't be rid of that easily, and decides to save Jade from her upcoming underworld marriage. Can he do it without becoming lunch in the process?
Dating a Vampire is an obvious retread of the classic stories that also inspired the Chinese Ghost Story films, but Wong Jing also copies other sources with the Mister M character. Mister M is a charlatan occult expert who gets involved with real vampires, and is a direct lift of the Roddy MacDowell character from the 1986 film Fright Night. Mister M's character arc and even certain scenes are stolen wholesale from Fright Night, which might be considered unethical it weren't for Wong Jing's long history of stealing ideas. Knocking Wong Jing for lifting ideas would be like knocking Vince Carter for dunking basketballs; it's what they do best, and if they didn't do it then they probably wouldn't be themselves anymore. Besides, for an obvious cinema throwaway like Dating a Vampire, it shouldn't be that important if they steal an idea or two. What's important is that the stolen idea somehow makes it into a semi-entertaining motion picture. If you've seen Wong Jing's earlier efforts, you'll know that it's possible.
However, Dating a Vampire neglects to steal anything resembling quality from its sources. The film possesses some semi-creepy staging, but the utter cheapness of the production hurts matters considerably. The sets are distractingly spartan, and the make-up laughably applied. The vampires' whiteface make-up frequently rubs off, and their claws look to be applied with rubber cement. The acting is also inconsistent. Miki Yeung and Alex Fong are passable, but don't generate enough chemistry to make their Chinese Ghost Story-like plotline even remotely compelling. Sammy overacts, as do the vampire sisters, and thanks to the cheap makeup and effects, they only look silly instead of frightening. Yuen Wah is his usual self, but Andy On is wasted as Alex Fong's big brother, an SDU officer who leads his team into the housing estate in a hilariously serious fashion. And the story? Slow and completely lacking tension. The dictionary is more exciting than the narrative of Dating a Vampire.
The biggest killer here is the action, or the lack thereof. When the finale rolls around, we get treated to supernatural types jumping at each other like in the wild HK films of old -- except they do it here in slow motion with distracting strobe effects that are all but guaranteed to induce seizures. Director Clarence Fok also employs jerky step printing, unclear framing, and murky moving camera. These choices were likely made by the filmmakers to disguise the lack of budget and choreography, but really, they don't do a good job of doing that. Back in the eighties, a bare bones plot and a lack of budget were compensated for by actual creativity, be it hyperstylized camerawork, lurid production design, or entertaining action and wirework. Dating a Vampire compensates for its poor writing and low budget with stuff that's even worse. The result: an out-and-out bad movie, and another reason to give up on Wong Jing-produced work. That the man continues to be involved with such transparent commercial tripe is either a testament to his salesmanship or the result of some unknown deal with an evil supernatural power. Considering Wong's prolific output even during these depressing Hong Kong Cinema days, I'm starting to believe it's the latter reason. She's smart, but her environment threatens to strangle her aspirations. Responding to a threat by her school's principal, Akeelah participates in a spelling bee to avoid detention for her many absences. Much to her surprise and embarrassment, she wins. Her principal asks her to seek coaching from an English professor named Dr. Larabee for the more prestigious regional bee. As the possibility of making it all the way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee looms, Akeelah could provide her community with someone to rally around and be proud of -- but only if she can overcome her insecurities and her distracting home life. She also must get past Dr. Larabee's demons, and a field of more experienced and privileged fellow spellers.

AVI File Details
========================================
Name.........: Akeelah.and.the.Bee.avi
Filesize.....: 169 MB (or 173,127 KB or 177,282,498 bytes)
Runtime......: 01:52:54 (162,420 fr)
Video Codec..: XviD
Video Bitrate: 153 kb/s
Audio Codec..: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate: 56 kb/s (28/ch, stereo) CBR
Frame Size...: 320x180 (1.78:1) [=16:9]

Download link

http://www.badongo.com/file/1243926
http://www.badongo.com/file/1243927
http://www.badongo.com/file/1243930
http://www.badongo.com/file/1243913

I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)

A group of teens accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank. With over 20 books written on the subject, and a town that still lives in fear of the return of the unseen spirit, the story of "An American Haunting" is terrifying. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell Family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family and eventually ended up causing the death of one its members. Starting with small sounds around the farm, and the sighting of a a strange BLACK WOLF with piercing yellow eyes, the sounds escalated into full brutal contact with the certain family members, causing psychological and physical torment. The attacks grew in strength, with the spirit slapping, pulling, dragging, and beating the Bell's youngest daughter. The Bells searched for rational explanations and ways to rid their house of this entity, but to no avail as the spirit began to communicate with them through sounds, and eventually multiple voices that sounded like the wind. The cause of its actions could always be felt, but no being could be seen, and no explanation found- only the promise that one day it would kill one of the family members. Fearing that the haunting was caused by a local woman -branded a witch- who had put a curse upon the family as a result of a land dispute, the Bells tried desperately to find ways to get rid of the woman's curse, yet the attacks and disturbances only escalated. It was not until a manuscript of the local schoolteacher -who lived on the property during the disturbance- was found in 1998 that the horrifying and shocking answer to what caused this haunting would finally be unveiled.

AVI info

An.American.Haunting.DVDRip.XviD
169MB
Sub: English
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0429573/
XviD
320*240
MP3 2CH 44100Hz 64kpps

Download link

http://rapidshare.de/files/28859805/aah.DVDRip.XviD.part1.rar.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/28859735/aah.DVDRip.XviD.part2.rar.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/28859860/aah.DVDRip.XviD.part3.rar.html
http://rapidshare.de/files/28858872/aah.DVDRip.XviD.part4.rar.html

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

A maturing Anakin Skywalker goes to the dark side of The Force and becomes Sith Lord Darth Vader.
